Sling LSA Kits Delivered to Taiwan

Sling LSA Kits Delivered to Taiwan!

These are the first kits arriving at our Taiwanese Assembly Plant. In Taiwan, real estate is at a premium and, as such, they build upwards.

Because of this, you can see them lifting the kits, by crane, into the factory which is on the fifth floor of a tall building

First Garmin Sling 4's delivered!

In late December TAF delivered its first Slings with the new Garmin G3X EFIS systems to very proud owners Kevin Els and Thierry Plojoux & Rae Hoenderpoep. Feedback on the EFIS systems is that they are absolutely fantastic. The system can have an integrated auto pilot, transponder and radio if you want, freeing up panel space for back-up systems and instruments. Currently as standard we are still fitting panel mount radios though we have our first order for a remote radio too.

A huge congratulations to Thierry, Rae and Kevin on their beautiful new Sling 4’s!

Latest Sling kit to fly

Congratulations to Karl-Heinz Wagner on completing his Sling 2 kit build. Karl built between his garage and his hangar in Windhoek in Namibia and it took him 75 weekends.

"I have eventually completed my challenge. Took me app. 75 weekends single handed. Wing fuel hoses must still be connected , canopy seal glued and decal stickers must be applied.Thank you for a quality kit and your support throughout this project. I have built a Savannah in 2002 and comparing must say your kit is super. The Sling is however a much more demanding aircraft to build, everybody commented that she is a real airplane. I think that says it all.Busy with paperwork and then the first flight. Will report. The accuracy of the kit is so good that my A to C measurements is out by 2mm and C to D by 1mm. Take a small error holding the tape into account it will still fall within a max of 3mm."

ATS flight school collect Sling 4 For School!

Wessel van den Bergh, one the most experienced pilots we have in South Africa and an ex Air France test pilot picked up his third Sling today. His first two are Sling 2's that he uses in his flight school Aviation Toward Success (ATS). Based out of Grand Central Airport in Joburg the use of Slings is proving to be hugely successful for the school. After a couple of hours of flying his new Sling 4 today Wessel told me that he didnt think that we could ever make anything that flies better than a Sling 2..... but that he now realised he was wrong. The Sling 4 is even better and nicer to fly he says.

Congratulations from all at TAF to you and all your team Wessel. I hope this new addition to your portfolio of aircraft is as much of a success as the Sling 2's you have.

Sling Africa Tour 2014 Gets Underway

15 March - sometime in the morning

So it seems everyone had a wonderfully relaxing time at Nguma lodge in the Okavango, just on the western panhandle. Some of the crew flew back into Maun on Friday to buy much needed supplies (mostly beer) and deal with affairs back home. Then off North to Kasane in teh Chobe National Reserve for the next leg of the Sling Africa tour. IT look like they encountered some localised storms en-route  with some quite interesting flying conditions, but all arrived safely and in good spirits. The team has two days in Kasane before they depart for Vic Falls for the last destination on their tour. More news to follow in the next couple of days

13 March - 16:00 ZULU

So its been a long day then for the Slingers on their way to the swamps. Looks like they were held up at Maun International for quite a while this afternoon, and only managed to get out of there at 15;30 ZULU (17:30 local). We suspect that they had problems with their over flight permissions. The Bots officials are very sticky when it comes to NTCA aircraft especially when they are flying over the swamps.

The flight to Nguma Camp is only 100nm or so though so they should be sitting around a camp fire drinking beer very shortly. News of the days flight and photos will follow on Friday morning.

13 March - 08:00 ZULU

The Sling Africa Tour 2014 departure is delayed by a couple of hours due to low level mist at the The Airplane Factory. The teams are however in good spirits and enjoying thier last cups of coffee before departure. James is also as always late, but has made his customary phone call to check that "somebody" has packed and fueled up ZU TAF.
